The Gulf Pharmaceuticals Company
(Julphar) has expressed its
readiness to produce anti-avian
flu medication in association
with a Swiss pharmaceutical
company. Julphar's top-informed
official said that both
companies are ready to produce
the medicine and are waiting ...
for necessary permissions from
health-care authorities in the
country.
"We are ready to produce the
country's requirements of the
Tama Flu vaccine provided we are
given the green signal by
concerned national bodies,"
Abdulrazaq Yousif, Julphar
managing director, said in a
Press conference held on
Thursday night. The WHO-adopted
drug is considered to be the
only formula against the H5N1
virus that is expected to cause
the bird flu pandemic.
Yousif mentioned that Julphar
has the capacity to produce the
drug. "Due to the huge world
demand, the Swiss company Roche
can't provide any country with
its needs of the medicine in
less than six months, whereas we
will be able to do that in less
than four weeks."
