Roche is planning to impart
to the selected companies the all required expertise and equipment to produce
the medicine."We are very happy to get the licence. This will enable us to
produce the Flu Fly for local and regional markets. Flu Fly is Julphar's trade
name for the Tamiflu," Abdul Razaq Yousif, Managing Director, Julphar, told
media persons yesterday.
Experts consider Tamiflu, or
Oseltamivir, to be the most efficient treatment against human influenza caused
by a mutation of the bird-flu virus H5N1. The virus has recently caused a
deadly epidemic among birds worldwide.
Besides the UAE local
market, Julphar has received requests from Kuwait, Egypt, Bahrain, Saudi
Arabia and Algeria to supply the medicine.
We have sent a delegation to
Switzerland to complete the formalities with Roche Holding AG," he added.
Julphar had earlier
obtained permission from the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Industry to
produce the medication.
